Legg-Calve-Perthes disease, also known as Perthes disease, is a condition that affects the hip joint in children. It occurs when the blood supply to the femoral head (top of the thigh bone) is temporarily disrupted, leading to a loss of blood flow and subsequent bone death. This can cause pain, stiffness, and limited mobility in the hip joint.

Symptoms

  • Pain in the hip or groin #1
  • A Limp
  • Limited range of motion
  • Muscle weakness.
  • Affects children between the ages of 4 and 10
  • More common in boys than girls.

Treatment

  • Rest for 4 to 8 weeks
  • Physical therapy
  • Medication to manage pain and inflammation.
  • In some cases, surgery may be necessary to realign the hip joint and prevent further damage.
  •  Most clients fully recover and resume normal activities.
